Motichur Ladoo or Motichoor Ladoo is the round-shaped of sweetmeat made from tiny balls of gram flour or besan. These flour balls are fried in oil or ghee and then soaked in the sugar syrup. This sweet and pearl-like of balls are molded in ladoos. The Motichur Ladoo is said to come from the Northern area of the country, however, happens to be the favorite all over the country and even world.
Word 'motichoor' translates to the crushed pearls & honestly we think that there cannot be the better name than this. Originally linked with the states like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, the ladoos were simple to store in torrid temperatures, and will not go bad for many days. The Motichoor Ladoo has found the mention in the ancient and the medieval texts of Eastern and South regions.
Traditional ingredients for making ladoos were khoya, jaggery, and ghee. The turning point came for the ladoos with the introduction of the sugar in this recipe, and later mass cultivation of the sugar over the country.
While realizing that by adding sugar will take sweet quotient much higher, people started adding a lot of sugar to attract the costumers. It’s said that traditional Boondi Ladoo, paved a way for the Motichoor Laddoo as its popularity of the sugar syrup was caught on. like Boondi Laddoo, the Motichoor Ladoo was preferred for the extra shelf life, since they can be carried for the long distances easily.

Even today it is one common habit to carry Motichoor Laddoos in the dabbas for the long journey. They are prepared in the same way as Boondi Ladoo and made the way as the highly loved sweets in India.
